In the name of E3G and the European Council on Foreign Relations, together with MEP Reinhard Bütikofer, we are delighted to invite you to our roundtable on rethinking the EU-China relation on climate cooperation.

In this virtual roundtable discussion ECFR and E3G will present the key findings of their latest policy brief that maps the geopolitical dimension of the climate conversation and its impact on EU-China relations.
The broad notion of ‘partnership’ no longer sufficiently reflects the reality of the EU’s interaction with China in tackling the most important global challenge. Instead Europe and China are increasingly competing across the entirety of the relationship.
This will include climate policy which Europeans will no longer be able to treat as a separate dimension unaffected by broader geopolitical and geo-economic trends. The EU will now have to balance cooperation with increasing competition for leadership on green technologies, markets, and influence. How can the EU shape the future of Europe’s climate policy in light of the changing nature of EU-China relations?
